Concorde (G-BOAC)

I went to the Manchester Airport Viewing Park on Sunday, January 21st 2007 for about 45 minutes.

Concorde G-BOAC is on static display at the Viewing Park - it arrived there in October 2003...

I find it hard to believe Concorde was first flown in 1969, and went into service in 1976. It still looks amazingly modern and sleek.

I also find it hard to look and something like Concorde, and to equate, what for me is a romantic ideal of engineering skills, ambition, power, excitement etc. with global warming, and the insane volume of air traffic which is going on around me now, 38 years after Concorde first flew.

As long as businessmen fly halfway around the world to do a 1 hour slot in a meeting, or airlines offer trips for 1 penny, the air will keep getting choked full of air-fuel and the icebergs will keep melting...
