violinandviola.co.uk was started in spring 2000, with the aim of providing a central database of all things related to string music.
Over time, the range of facilities the site offers has grown, pretty much in line with our skills in building sites and building the site around a database. It seems like a long time ago that teacher listings were submitted by email, followed by us manually updating a web page and uploading it each time we had a new registration!
The site has been through quite a few design phases over the years, some of which have been archived on the Wayback Machine. Some of the old designs we'd prefer to forget!
The aim of the site is to hopefully allow teachers / shops / performers to put their details online via a fast, hassle-free registration process. From there, the plan is the prospective pupils / customers / clients will be able to find what they want on the site, with the minimum of hassle.
The site's services are free, but if you are feeling generous, donations are gratefully received towards the ongoing running costs and maintenance of the site.
