CopyPath facility
What's this for?
If you happen to be lucky enough to spend your working days sat in front of a pc, chances are your work PC is hooked up to a big network, and you will have to, from time to time, send links to documents on the network. If, like me, you find the process of working out what the full network path of this file, that folder or the other wotsit is tedious and irksome, then this free utility will do it for you and you can spend more time staring out of the window dreaming about not working in an office.
Just follow the steps below to get the utility working.
Download
As per this site: http://home.worldonline.dk/ninotech/freeutil.htm#pathcopy this is a really useful utility which, once installed, adds a right-click option you can use in Windows Explorer to copy the file path, or network path of any file or folder on your local computer or network.
It is simple to install - first of all, download it, and then open it up in winzip and extract the files onto your hard drive.
Install
Now to install:
- Browse to the file location on your hard drive where you unzipped the files
- Right-click on the 'PATHCOPY.INF' and choose 'Install' from the menu

- The .dll files are installed
- That's it - installation complete
Using it
Now, whenever you right-click on a file or folder in Windows Explorer, you have a new option:
The options create the following output, for example folder D:\share\exe\copypath\ which is also shared on the network as //SR757PY0J
- Copy Long Name: copypath
- Copy Long Folder: D:\share\exe\
- Copy Long Path: D:\share\exe\copypath
- Copy Long UNC Path: \\SR757PY0J\share\exe\copypath
- Copy Internet Path: file://SR757PY0J\share\exe\copypath
When you select any of the options, the output is placed into your PCs clipboard. In any text application, you can then type in CTRL + V to paste the clipboard contents into your document.
Have fun!
