Thinking of good names can sometimes be difficult. Often if I try to come up with any, I think of "Fred Bloggs" or "Andrew Smith" or something similar. Not that there's anything wrong with them, but given how many people there are in the world, and different nationalities, I thought it'd be fun to make a random name generator which hopefully others might find to be useful.
As far as I'm aware, I think that people might want to generate interesting and believable random names for books, plays, or even babies, perhaps. However, that seems like a weighty responsibility, so hopefully nobody will take the results from this site too seriously!
Use the form at the top of the page to select a nationality for the "given name" (otherwise known as "Christian Name" or "First Name"). When you do that, the pick list to the right of that will automatically select a surname of the same nationality. You can then click the green "Go" button to generate random name combinations.
You don't always have to select given names and surnames of the same nationality though - just select a different surname and see how you get on. If it annoys you that the surname always changes to match the first name selection, remove the tick from the Enable First Name -> Surname Synch tick box.
You can use the last pick list on the right to choose whether to limit results to be male or female.
If you would like to generate some random names, but include a name of your choice (either first name or surname), you could try the name generator instead.
